Golden Chersonese Miniatures was set up in 2008 as an artistic endeavour to cater to a niche area in traditional toy figures. We produce unique and stylized metal miniatures to portray exotic, lost kingdoms and unusual cultures from the Far East and Eastern Archipelago. “Golden Chersonese” was the old name given to the Malayan Peninsula and invokes the era and feel of a bygone age.

The subject matter and miniatures have no parallels in terms of subject matter and presentation. We do not compromise on quality. Our focus is on unusual subject matter coupled with extensive research, original designs and workmanship.

The figures are issued in SERIES or as EXCLUSIVE ITEMS. Each SERIES comprises of several types of boxed sets of figures related to a specific theme. EXCLUSIVE ITEMS allow us to produce one-off figures to complement the SERIES, adding further variety.

The first two SERIES and sets are based on the Indonesian Islands and represent our approach to producing exquisite miniatures for the connoisseur collector. The style of sculpting was selected to allow these miniatures to be collected on their own, while remaining compatible in size with other similarly scaled miniatures. The style is reminiscent of the Wayang Kulit and Wayang Golek figures which is replete in Indonesian art forms and represents a first ever approach to sculpting.

The figures are not one-piece castings but are designed modularly, giving infinite variations in poses. This allows all sets to be truly unique.
Each miniature is carefully assembled and meticulously painted. The figure base is a necessity for standing figures to stand upright. Artistically, we created a round base painted black to represent shadows, regardless of the ground on which the figure is standing on. The eyes are painted looking left for women and looking right for men, darting here and there as in a dance performance.

The selection of pieces to make up a set is the final stage of this creativity, both in presentation and in spirit. The sets are carefully planned with the pieces tied into their final positions and packed into a lavish presentation box. This focused activity allows only limited production of all the sets.

Each set includes a booklet containing historical and reference notes. The line drawings accompanying each booklet are based on our range of miniatures. Finally, all the pieces with round bases have a round label affixed underneath to complete the presentation.

Our policy is to add subtle changes to pieces and poses to ensure that no two sets are identical. The miniatures are designed to be issued as thematic sets in very limited editions and will make stunning original displays. More drawings and background information will be added to later booklets and sets as the series expand.
